the highwayman – hacking

At the very beginning, the Highwayman was a hacker. It was a core component of the game, happening before the robbery phase. The player would use his intel to prepare the terrain and hack as many things in the buildings as possible : door, alarm, pagers, computer, you name it.

However we had not enough time to piece this gameplay element together so we compromised on a lighter version of the hacking in real time.

During the robbery phase, the player will have access to these little windows. On the left is the hacking process and on the right are the different grid of the building.
  • Left window : the player controls a point (white round) that can move on the grid from and to linked nodes (green rounds).
  • Right window : the player gain access from physically interacting with some objects. Each object belong to a grid. The grids are separated so hacking one object is not enough to gain access to the whole level.

At first, the player has no connection to any grid. When hacking, the player can move the dot on the grid. Green nodes and yellow nodes are accessible. Red nodes kick the player out of the grid. Blue nodes perform an action on an object in the level – camera shutdown/vision takeover.

A couple of new things that were added by Dorian. The player cursor is now an arrow to make it more visible. There is also a new effect when hacking a device. The green nodes have been replaced by white nodes. And yellow nodes take the player to another part of the grid.

At this time, the virus is beginning to threaten France so we will certainly have to finish the project in isolation.
